"Covenant" - 4/9/09

I feel
like you threw me away

I understand
you are "done"

though you say you love me
what is love, to you?

if I cannot be her (the one you need)
will I still, somehow, be someone you choose

to see
I wonder how you are sleeping

is it peacefully
or are you stirring the way I became

used to
your labored breathing metaphorical

for the effort
I hoped I'd always feel privileged to make

to love
you so what does this absence of us mean

suddenly
and where will the energy spent missing

go when
exhausted, it can wander no longer slave to future's promise

false though
it may be by the end of this fast, a long, hot spring

eight days

of burning tears salt water rolling toward what will last
